چکیده

Over the last years, considerable progress has been made in understanding the role of the endocannabinoid system in the modulation of several progressive neurodegenerative diseases. The endocannabinoid system, comprised of cannabinoid receptors (type-1 and type-2), their endogenous ligands [referred to as endocannabinoids, of which anandamide (AEA) and 2-arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG) are most studied] and proteins responsible for their metabolism, is involved in several physiological processes. Endocannabinoids modulate neuronal, glial and endothelial cell function and exert neuromodulatory, anti-excitotoxic, antiinflammatory and vasodilatory effects. They have been found to exert neuroprotection in several conditions, such as cerebral ischemia, brain injury, neuroinflammation and excitotoxicity linked to seizure activity and associated neurodegeneration. The endocannabinoid system and its pharmacological modulation is a promising field for the therapeutic intervention at a wide spectrum of diseases such as Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, Huntington’s chorea, multiple sclerosis, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and epilepsy. The purpose of this review is to present the available research and clinical data, up to date, regarding therapeutic perspectives of the endocannabinoid system in such neurodegenerative diseases. P 117: Endocannabinoid System as a Novel Therapeutic Target in Epilepsy

Endocannabinoid (ECB) system plays a vital role in responses to stress. Moreover, ECB and its receptors cause anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidative and neuroprotective effects by modulating neuronal, glial and endothelial cell functions. A number of studies have demonstrated ECB system notably defects in neurotraumatic and neurodegenerative diseases like epilepsy, TBI, Alzheimer’s disease and...

P184: Combination of Herbal Medicine and Nanomedicine: a Novel Therapeutic Target for Neurodegenerative Diseases

Inflammation is a pathologic condition that includes a wide range of diseases namely neurodegenerative diseases. Several natural anti-inflammatory components have been identified in plant extracts used in traditional medicine for the relief of inflammation. Herbal medicine is showing difficulty in crossing the blood-brain barrier (BBB). So that the ability to pass the BBB is the main concern fo...

Study the Effect of Endocannabinoid System on Rat Behavior in Elevated Plus-Maze

Introduction: Previous studies have shown that cannabinoidergic system is involved in anxiety. However, there are controversial reports in the experimental studies. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of pharmacological stimulation or blocking of CB1 receptors and inhibition of endocannabinoid degradation in anxiety like behavior in elevated plus-maze (EPM) test in rat. The EPM is o...

P185: Survey Effect of Histamine on Microglia in Neurodegenerative Diseases

Neurodegenerative diseases contain Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and Parkinson’s disease (PD), are characterized by neuronal death and neuronal degeneration in specific regions of the central nervous system (CNS). Microglia are the basic immune brain cells and play a role in homeostasis after inflammation challenge. Microglia involves in Neurodegenerative disease...

The endocannabinoid system and plant-derived cannabinoids in diabetes and diabetic complications.

Oxidative stress and inflammation play critical roles in the development of diabetes and its complications. Recent studies provided compelling evidence that the newly discovered lipid signaling system (ie, the endocannabinoid system) may significantly influence reactive oxygen species production, inflammation, and subsequent tissue injury, in addition to its well-known metabolic effects and fun...
